🔧 Common faults and what they mean

E1 – Evaporator temperature sensor fault

Symptoms

  • Dehumidifier runs but defrosts frequently

  • Stops approx. every 20 minutes

  • Defrost cycle may last up to 8 minutes

Cause

  • Faulty evaporator temperature sensor

  • Or loose connection

Quick test

  • Turn off and unplug for 1 minute

  • Restart the unit

  • If E1 remains → sensor needs replacement

👉 Usually a relatively inexpensive spare part.

E2 / E3 – Humidity or temperature sensor fault

Symptoms

  • Runs continuously

  • Does not stop automatically

  • Ignores set humidity level

Cause

  • Faulty hygrostat (humidity sensor)

  • Faulty temperature sensor

Result
The unit keeps dehumidifying constantly.

Solution

  • Sensor typically needs replacement

  • Often located near the air intake

EE – Refrigerant leakage

The most serious fault.

Symptoms

  • Compressor starts

  • No dehumidification

  • Or stops quickly

  • Error code EE

Cause

  • Leak in refrigerant circuit

  • Loss of refrigerant

Reality
👉 Often not economical to repair on small domestic units.

Usually only worth repairing if:

  • Large industrial model

  • Still under warranty

🧰 5 most common faults (no error code)
In practice, these are seen most often:

Faulty compressor capacitor
– Unit won’t start
– Humming sound
– Very common

Clogged filter / dust
– Poor performance
– Icing

Fan not running
– No airflow
– No dehumidification

Frost on evaporator
– Sensor or temperature issue

Full water tank sensor
– Unit thinks tank is full
– Will not start

🔎 Quick troubleshooting (before disassembly)

  • Unplug power for 2 minutes

  • Check filter

  • Check fan operation

  • Check if compressor gets warm

  • Check for ice on coil

This solves about 50% of cases.

Questions
Is it a:

  • Small household dehumidifier

  • Güde model

  • Or large workshop unit?

What exactly does it do?

  • Starts → stops

  • Fan only

  • Error code on display

  • Smell of refrigerant

  • No effect

Describe the symptoms – the fault can often be identified quite precisely.
